Subject: More similarities
In reply to: Pius IX 's message, "Re: My son is a UBFr" on 13:26:48 11/15/04 Mon

I don't want to go bashing catholics, but there are more similarities:

- confessing sins to a so-called "shepherd", in sogams -- or confessing to a priest! Imagine, at least the priest doesn't take your dirty little secret and spreads it in "prayer chains" all across the globe!

- infallibility of the Pope = infallibility of the UBF "director". It doesn't matter if what they say is right, like for the Catholic the Pope's decision is the final verdict, for the UBF'er the director's decision is binding

- "well meant is what counts": Inquisition or "pepper in the eyes/toenail pulling/dead dog training", really, I don't see much difference. Both justified such acts of cruelty under the header of "well meant".

- covers instead of confession: like in the past of the RCC, it was a sin to speak about the misdeeds of a priest, the UBF still keeps this tradition today, instead of "priest" insert "missionary","shepherd","director" or whatever.

Those are just some things.
But then, there are things in which the RCC is much better than UBF:

- marriage: you can marry whom you want (even though the official Vatican party line has objections about marrying persons of a different religion), most of all, it's YOUR decision whom you get to know.
- freedom: no constant pushing around, telling you what to do or what to believe. Essentially, the RCC is built upon people living a faithful life not about getting members into the group.
- theology: the RCC won't put the fox in the henhouse by paradigm, missionaries tend to have a thorough theological foundation as well as they have proven to be faithful workers of God before they get sent out.
- work: RCC missionary work is funded from home, and when a mission has proven successfully fruitful, the missionary moves on. Mission involves tremendous sacrifice and hard labor. In UBF, the goal of the missionary is to get some slaves who will do their every bidding until their dying day.

If you really know the UBF well, the RCC seems to be a nicer group than the UBF.

The Pro's of UBF are:
- dedication of each member
- daily devotion
- strong sense of community

... but that's about it.
