wanted to know if it was God directing me or just my own feelings

This is a very evil trick they play with you. The problem is that they never teach people how to know whether something is a feeling or the will of God. Instead, they imply that everything that is done in accord with UBF and in obedience to its leaders, is the will of God, whereas everything else are your own selfish feelings. They direct people in every way, they never teach people to be directed by God directly. So, how can they know if God is directing them? They will be always unsure. And that's what they exploit. Only if you follow UBF you can be "sure" that it is God's will. If you do something different, they will implant into you such feelings of tension and unease, that you always remain unsure.

Next time ask them how THEY know that it is God directing them! You will find out that they have no measure. They don't check the direction with the Bible, since UBF does many unbiblical things. They don't consult their feelings, which can be a good warning instrument given by God, since they have been tought feelings are always sinful. They don't consult their conscience, since they have been tought one has to overcome conscience and human moral. They don't consult versed Christians outside of UBF. They don't consult good Christian books. They don't know who is the Holy Spirit since He is not needed in UBF when every direction is given by the leader. The simple answer is: Their only measurestick whether something is the will of God is whether it is in line with the UBF party line.
