Subject: False claims about arranged marriage
In reply to: Mitch 's message, "Re: To Mitch and J" on 11:20:29 08/21/04 Sat

The director even mentioned "arranged marriage", saying that the UBF marraiges are much different than arranged marriages; and he of course brought up Isaac's marriage (Gn 24), suggesting that everyone should marry like this.

Yes, that's typical.

I just want to mention one thing that is often overlooked: It is not only a false teacing that everybody should marry like the example in Gn 24. But it is also a false teaching of UBF that Gn 24 actually teaches about marriage by arrangement of church leaders. If any man arranges here, than it is the father of Isaak who arranges his marriage. It is not the priest Melchizedek or anybody else. It was usual in the past that parents arranged marriages. However, UBF completely deprives the parents of any say in a UBF marriage. Second, if you have a closer look, Abraham did not even arrange the marriage, nor his servant. Neither of them chose Rebekka. They prayed and let God show his will, by kind of demanding a sign. The servant said "By this I will know..." So he did not know before. It was arranged by God, not by man. But UBF leaders always claim to know the will of God. They don't need signs. They want to have everything under control, and don't want to leave anything to chance resp. God.
