Not only did John Kwon NOT deny that UBF was based on pyramid structure, he aggresivly ADVOCATED it as the biblical basis for church structure.
Brian, your are sitting on the fence here. You want to defend the Koreans who are holding this view, yet you purport to have different view. Therefore you cannot give clear answers and quibble and waver around. Whoever cannot follow the twisted Bible interpretation of UBF is said to not have a "learnful mind."
Let me add that I have been once kicked out of UBF by my (Korean) shepherd, because during a Bible study I did not want to agree with his teaching that you have to "absolutely obey your shepherd" (absolutely = in every case), which is actually the same question as the original question, no matter how much you quibble about it. All elder and leading UBF Koreans who I have met in UBF held that view. Of course, as I said, nobody would publically admit this. UBF does not write on their invitation cards "we are a community that uphelds the belief that leaders need to be obeyed absolutely." No, you learn it the hard way.
I want to bring up add another important aspect: The problem is not only that the leaders believe in the absolute obedience and covering doctrine, but the problem is that they also abuse this absolute authority. It would not be such a problem, if leaders would know that the realm of authority of a Christian leader does not extend to the private realm of the members and their marriage. It is another unspoken and wrong doctrine of UBF that the realm of authority of church leaders has no limits. Together, these two wrong and dangerous doctrines (absolute obedience and unlimited authority realm) are the basis for the spiritual abuse, and the whole thing is so dangerous because UBF holds BOTH doctrines at the same time.
