  Hope this place picks up. As someone who doesn't have a TCRG and teaches( I've taken the exam ) it's no walk in the park to pass. My hats off to anyone that does! Not everyone wants to compete, and not all TCRG's want to teach rec. dancer's. There is a need for us to fill the void. Just my 2 cents

  Please don't flame me or call me names. I'm an adult and have been trying to learn Irish dance for five years. But the Irish dance community has been far from welcoming. I've tried a couple schools, and I've gotten the distinct impression (or have been told outright) that I'm not good enough for them and to get lost.
  
  It hurts. All I want to do is dance. What's the secret? What do I have to do--that no one's telling me--to get accepted into an Irish dance school as a beginner?
  
  If I didn't love dancing so much, I'd just walk away from it. I've never met such rude people. And I heard from a friend that her relative's little girl was denied enrollment (in another city) because the entire school was full and wasn't accepting any more students when they obviously were.
  
  The last school I tried to enroll with did nothing with my application and check and refuses to respond to my phone calls or e-mails. Classes started two weeks ago, and I'm frantically trying to figure out why I wasn't accepted.
  
  And there aren't any other schools in my area.
  
  Second question. Is there any way to learn Irish dance even if you're not accepted by a school? Is there any way to DO anything with it then? I had originally hoped to get my TCRG.
  
  Please don't flame me. I'm not a bad person. I'm just trying to figure out why this is happening.

  When I started dancing I didn't really know anything about certified and non certified schools. I thought irish dance was irish dance. I started dancing with a non-certified school but didn't know it at the time. Once I got more into irish dance and started researching I realized the difference. I love to dance but feel kind of ripped off because this group never took the time to explain the difference between a certified and non-certified school. There is one certified school in my area but through an ironice twist of faith, they refuse to take dancers from the non-certified school because they don't have a good relationship with them--no exceptions, I've tried. I don't dance there any more because after more than a year I got tired of learning the same basic steps over and over and not progressing. I am sure there are some great non-certified dance schools out there that are better than this one was but my question is, what do you non-certified schools do to help your new dancers understand their options. Or do you even do that? If you don't, what is your justification, why not tell them the truth and explain the options so they can make a more informed decision? This has just upset me immensely. I could have still been dancing if this non-certified group had just been courtious enough to give me my options.

  Ok, I'm in the market to make some money(to pay for the unending expenses of irish dance) and had a great idea. I live in a small town and thought that I could use my irish dance talent to make some money. I'm thinking of teaching kids in my town and the other small surrounding areas(the big dance schools are in the city). So my question for you is: Does a school that is just very low key and will not be competing, or do anything other than perform and hold recitals have to be registered with an organisation?
  
  I'm only 15 and not thinking about making this a very pulicized school. Just a chance for kids in my town to learn irish dance and to help me make some money. I think that it's no dfferent than someone teaching piano out of their home. I will be checking with my teacher to make sure that it's ok. I also am aware that I can't use my teacher's steps. Which is perfectly fine because I am quite capable of make my own. I would like to know if you think this a good idea becuase this would give me great experience for when I do decide to get my TCRG and start a larger school else where. I am also going to check wih the NAFC(North American Feis Commission) to make sure that I can do this and still be allowed to compete. So I'd like to know your thoughts!

  At a feis (The Feis in the Desert for example) when there is a Treble Reel competition, how many steps do you do?
