Subject: Elian Gonzalez

What living nightmares this little boy has lived through.
While heartbreaking for the Miami relatives - A U.S. Court ordered them to release Elian so he could be returned to the lawful custody of his father.

They are not above the law. Why didn't they obey the law knowing that such a confrontation was inevitable if they didn't. There is an Appeal in process, which means Elian (and his father) are forced to stay in the U.S. until it is heard.

The law has to be enforced and the relatives were stalling.
You just don't hold the U.S. Courts in contempt and in defiance.
I have some compassion for the military enforcers also - how can they tell what awaits them if they show up unarmed to enforce the law.
Of course that picture in the papers was appalling. I shudder every time I see it. I wonder whose tasteless and grotesque idea it was to station a photographer in the house to capture this traumatic event (which was probably done very quickly).
I have compassion for the relatives also. These are not
decisions I would ever want to have to face.
Just my humble view but I believe the U.S. did the right thing.
