I hope everyone is enjoying the month of August.
Micki,
I didn't mean to say anything bad about any other kind of surgery. If you need to have surgery because of health reasons, then you need it. I was talking about older people who have just pulled their facial skin so much their eyes are becoming slanted; their foreheads and cheeks are chiseled like stone; and they look like a cartoon of what they used to look like. Case in point: William Shatner. I've always enjoyed his performances in "Star Trek" and laughed at some of his other movie appearances, as he is a pretty good comedian, even when he is trying to act in a serious role. But seeing him in those "Priceline" commercials is kind of sad, because he looks like an old man trying to stay young; and the results are not good. After all, he is a 77 year old man who cannot stay young forever. (And I won't even comment about Joan Rivers). My main point is that I would much rather grow old gracefully than to have surgery to look like a cartoon of what I am. If I have a lot of wrinkles, so be it. If I have a lot of gray hair, so be it. I don't need to look young on the outside to feel young on the inside...
Well, Iraq sure is pushing for a set Timetable for us to withdraw our troops, as is their right to do so. I am just amazed how the Neo-Con dream of the "Project for the New American Century" agenda has disappeared into a bad nightmare. The website is closed (with a message to contact the Accounts office--I guess William Kristol hasn't been paying for the use of the website) and there is no more fanatic ideas about taking over the planet being thrown all over the place. I remember reading somewhere on the Internet, right after the Invasion of Iraq, that Karl Rove was predicting a NEW United States of America, where the Republican party would be the majority party for the next Hundred years--he even was saying that the Democratic party would just disappear into the sunset. Well, we all saw how THAT turned out. Ready for another subpoena, Rove?
As far as choosing between McCain and Obama, I have to say that I will be voting for Obama, no matter what kind of baloney about him is thrown out by the Repubs, because I know if John McCain is elected, then we are going to Invade Iran; no question about it. There are already rumors I've read on the Internet that Israel will bomb Iran if McCain is elected president, so he can start right away sending troops across the border from Iraq. Forget about Afghanistan and Pakistan (and Osama bin Laden being taken to trial). This Invasion will happen because of the OIL; just like Bush's excuse to Invade Iraq. But, we all see where that is going. I wonder why these Repubs cannot admit they made a Mistake, approving of their glorious leader's deliberate Invasion of a country that (here we go again) had NOTHING to do with September 11, 2001. (By the by, very interesting about that book that Ron Suskind wrote, saying that there was a forged letter, backdated to 2001, claiming 'proof' that Mohammad Atta, one of the 9/11 hijackers, was training in Iraq. The letter was supposedly written on White House stationery. Hmm, Dick Cheney up to something evil again?)
Everyone have a Safe and Happy week, and keep cool, if possible...
Love,
Mercedes
