Subject: These events say little about Sarah Palin ... and lots about Team McCain ...

... and how - with a full six months from the time he clinched the nomination to now - it seems that he didn't do his homework:

(a) It's difficult to have a a "Country First" platform - when it seems that Palin was a member of an Alaska Secessionist Party. I have no opinion one way or another on that - it's up to Alaskans, and I would back them if they were to vote to do so. But "Country First" now seems awkward.

(b) It appears that a group of citizens sought to recall her as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska - the original 1997 Anchorage Daily News story is behind a subscription wall, but it stems from her firing the city's police chief and library director without warning due to "not fully supporting her efforts to govern". (Dick Cheney revisited).

(c) She was "for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it" - telling Ketchican residents she felt their pain when politicians called them "nowhere." Then, when the heat was on, backed off in a pre-dawn press release that seemed aimed at national news deadlines. Flip-flop, eh?

(d) She has now lawyered-up: hiring an attorney over "Trooper-Gate" - firing her public safety commissioner Walt Monegan after he refused to fire a state trooper who had divorced Palin's sister, and now facing a state ethics panel. (Again, a worthy successor to Dick Cheney in style).

(e) For all of the "battling corruption" label - she was a director of a 2003 independent political group organized by the (now indicted) Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens. Old news? Didn't know how corrupt he was back then? Well, she held a news conference with him in July (just before he was indicted) to make clear she had not abandoned him politically.

(f) And after all of the above: McCain's team dispatched a dozen operatives and lawyers to Alaska, fueling speculation that a comprehensive examination of her past was incomplete and being done only after she was placed on the ticket.

Notice that I haven't touched any of the family issues; I agree that they are not relevant. What is relevant is that the supposed "experienced political team" was blindsided by all of this; yet they're telling me that the Obama-Biden ticket is the "risky" one, that's "inexperienced"?
