Many believers in the Bible do not take it as a literal truth but as a metaphorical interpretation of order of earth and the universe.

There are some people who believe that Dinosaurs were around right up until the time of Noah but no one before then felt they were significant enough to be worthy of mention. Oh really! Of course in all the places dinosaurs died in the great flood, every one found so far managed to pick a spot where no man had ever been buried beneath them or even anywhere near alongside them. God was obviously a practical joker and wanted to have some fun in years to come watching his true believers try and explain that away to the palaeontologists.
