I've come home to pick up some clothes for the coming week.

We've all been staying at my cousin's house in SA for the past 2 weeks. My husband went to get his father and his father's wife from Houston on Sept 4th and they've been with us in SA since then. El Viejo has been so wonderful here, taking care of our pets and checking on our place. I call him every day to make sure he is all right.

Since they live in northwest Houston, my father-in-law and his wife are hoping that there isn't too much damage from Ike, but they haven't been back there yet to find out. My son will be taking my father-in-law to Houston on Tuesday to check out his house. My son dropped out of college this fall semester, because he said he wanted to take care of his Abuelo (Grandpa). I wasn't happy about it, but he has been keeping up my father-in-law's hope that all is well in Houston. They have been spending a lot of time every day talking with each other about the past and the future and learning from each other. Maybe it was meant to be this way.

I probably won't be back home again until the end of next week. I'll let you know how everything is going then...

Love,
Mercedes
