.. having hopped off pride she runs over to the mare, at the same time ripping a piece off the bottom of her shirt and pressing it to the wound . as if transfixed she holds the cloth to the wound and massages the mares neck comfortingly with her other hand near her poll, but her attention was else-where, she had heard two shots earlier, the first and then a second following it . by the look of the gash on the mares neck - she lifted the cloth slightly to look at it - it was inflicted by a bullet (probably the first shot heard) . she guessed that the dog had followed RC and someone had tried to shoot it and missed and followed it with another shot . concidering she heard no more of the gunshots her guess was that the dog was dead ..

.. her voice was quiet, RC's wound needed to be attended to immediately .. 'Come on RC let's get you to Kit, she'll fix you up..' .. she looked to Pride .. 'Thanx boy, I'll come see you after I get RC to the clinic. You deserve a good rub down and a reward for your bravery..' .. she smiled softly and looked to Abbey ..
