.. she pulled up the girth so that it was snug - but not restricting before she put her foot in the stirrup and mounted gently . one thing that the mare would discover that everything she did was soft and discreet - unless need called otherwise - like Quicksilver, her stallion, it would be a tough thing to learn at first, but in the end it would heighten both of their senses . she patted the mare's neck softly and took her out onto the left rein to try some walk-trot, trot-halt transitions to warm her up before they did anything else, watching how the mare moved ..
