'Twas the night before HEINE when all through the house
Not a butt cheek WAS stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung ON MY HEINE with CARE
In hopes that St. HEINE WOULD soon would be there;
looking for a poem

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of HEINE plums danced in their heads;
And mamma WITH her HEINE and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's crap

When out of my HEINE there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the toilet I flew like a flash,
Tore open my trousers and threw up the sash.
