Subject: looking for the author of a poem

I received a poem from a man in prison who was asking for help in finding God. He claims he wrote this poem; although I've seen it on the internet before. I'm trying to figure out who wrote it. Can anyone help?

As my children bring their broken toys.
With tears for me to mend,
I brought my borken dream to God

Because he is my friend.

But then instead of leaving Him
In Peace to work alone
I hung around and tried to help

With ways that were my own.

At last I snatched them back and cried
How could you be so slow
"My child" He said "What could I do?

You never did let go."
