Subject: Searching for poem by a woman named Schwartz

Beginning November 20, 2003, my e-mail address will change to:

anitamessenger@hal-pc.org

I am searching for a poem named, "My Mother's Daughter." It was in a collection of the poetry by a female author named Schwartz. First name unknown is unknown. I have most of the poem written down but know it to be incomplete. Here is what I have.

"My Mother's Daughter"

As is the mother,
so is the daughter, and on and on.

Ezekiel knew the natural course
that I have spent years trying to deny.

But I play the piano, a familiar tune
and look down at my hands
and bone for tiny bone,
vein for fein they are hers
impossible to disown.

As is the mother, so is the daughter.
As the plant, the bud,
From blood to blood.

Exekiel knew the natural law
that I have spent years trying to deny
and now embrace with joy.

Note:

When my mother's mother died, I found my mother's hands. When my mother died, I found my hands. We are all pianists.

My mother died in September, 2001 at the age of 89. She was a difficult woman, mentally unstable. When she was diagnosed with colon cancer early in the 1980s, I thought that she would not live long. While at the hospital helping care for her I decided to put the text as quoted here on a large needlepoint canvas. I was just trying to come to terms with her illness.

There were many other difficulties she would face before her death. When faced with new illnesses she experienced for several years, I would take the canvas and add some background around the text. When each illness was resolved, I would put it back in it's box. About 10 years back I lost track of the box the canvas was in but found it in storage a few days ago. The text is intact but the canvas is no longer in good enough shape to finish the original work.

During all these years, I have considered this needlework to be my "grieving piece." It is time to complete this work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
