One potential thing that mitigates the no new rink thing is that we would play in the Centrum...and no one else is going to be able to compete with that...and there would be a lot of fan overlap from whatever that Worcester hockey team is...I think we should sell on that from a fan/revenue perspective.

As to not giving scholarships, this is not as much of an issue to me b/c Pearl said we'll just give em more money as need-based aid. I am actually shocked though that Pearl effectively admitted to questionable tampering (i.e. you really can't make need materialize if you want a certain player). That being said, this kids are all going for free, which is essentially an athletic scholarship in disguise. The Ivies will hopefully have our back on this one.

The women's team. This hurts us but is not the deciding factor. Mercyhurst has a decided edge over us on this one. Not sure what we can really do on this.

Pearl and his AH comments. Again, I hate to see this stuff...we should be selling ourselves 100%. AH is not going to kick us out ever for selling ourselves to the ECAC and behind closed doors we are telling the ECAC that we want them tons (or at least I hope we are).

At the end of the day, I think the ECAC will take at least two teams...one based on academics - HC - and one based on athletic scholarships (take your pick here). I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that the Cross has brought in some outside help to make the pitch...otherwise we might be on the other side of the fishbowl again.

Cheers.

I'm very upbeat. Much of what the other schools are showcasing falls apart on close inspection. Nigara's rink renovation will actually shrink its capacity to 1200 and QU has yet to find the funding for its new rink. And given the comments of Yale's AD in today's New Haven Register -- academics and the national prestige of the League are a big part of the thinking -- I believe Niagara, Mercyhurst and SH are goners. HC will get the nod but I wouldn't be that shocked that QU comes in also based on the comments of HC 1843. Prediction -- HC women will be D-I within 4 years.

My perspective as an outsider is that Coach Pearl did a good job on the Q&A. His responses seemed honest, and his perspectives appeared realistic and not compromised by over-dramatic visions or inflated "political" rhetoric.

Geez...I'd love to see HC play Colgate in The Centrum. Or, better than that, how about a four-team holiday tournament at the Centrum!

I'd like to see Colgate consistently beat HC anywhere. HA! It would be fun and the start of a good rivalry.. I think HC will have the edge due to geography and academics.
