Subject: Hoyas get top QB transfer !

Just saw this on line....

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

By Marc Narducci
Inquirer Staff Writer

Nick Cangelosi, The Inquirer's first-team all-South Jersey quarterback in 2002 from Camden Catholic, has transferred from the University of North Carolina to Georgetown.

Cangelosi, who threw 25 touchdown passes as a high school senior, redshirted last season and will have four years of eligibility left. Since he is going from a I-A to a I-AA school, he is eligible immediately.

Cangelosi wanted to attend a school that was closer to his home in Haddon Heights. Even though football is a non-scholarship sport at Georgetown, Cangelosi said he received a strong financial-aid package.

"It was a good deal that I got, Georgetown is a strong academic school and I wanted to be closer to home," Cangelosi said last night.

The Hoyas play in the Patriot League in football. Cangelosi said that he was told he will have a chance to compete for the quarterback position.

Cangelosi also said that when he was visiting Georgetown earlier this week, he met new basketball coach John Thompson, and talked about the chance to be a walk-on in that sport.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

As he is going from I-A to I-AA he'll be eligible to play this coming season....note the general reference on his 'aid' package vis a vis having had a full athletic scholarship with the Tar Heels.

Below are the schools that offered this kid a full scholly 2 years ago....

North Carolina
Boston College
Iowa
Rutgers
Virginia Tech

....and here's his bio from 2 years ago:

Ranked the No. 1 quarterback in New Jersey * Named a PrepStar All-America * Earned all-state honors as a senior and was named to the 2002 South New Jersey All-Star Team * Threw for 2,190 yards and 25 touchdowns as a senior and completed over 60 percent of his passes * Did not start playing football until his freshman year in high school, but was the starting quarterback as a sophomore * Threw for over 5,000 career yards and 59 touchdowns * High school teammate of Carolina commitment Joe Kedra * Coached by Dennis Scuderi * Also started on the basketball team and helped win a state championship as a sophomore *

I'd say he has a decent shot at landing the QB job for the Hoyas....

A great pick up for G-Town. The schools that recruited him are no slouches, and neither is UNC. Sounds like G-Town got a transfer with a brain.
