Others with HC connections to enter the NE Hoops Hall of Fame this year are Ed Siudut who will enter as a Mass HS player (Everett) and Kevin Stacom who will enter as Division I player from Providence. I've always wondered why he transferred. Was he also frustrated with Jack Donahue or were there other reasons?

Stacom's last year at HC was the year before I got to HC and, as I recall from my older brother's reports, he had not been getting a lot of playing time. Senior Jack Adams was the top guard that year along with Bruce Grentz and Buddy Venne. Those two started at guard for us the next year. My belief was that Dave Gavitt at PC was the best coach in New England. Perhaps Kevin's departure came due to a lack of court time at HC and Gavitt's promise of a bigger role at PC after the departure of Ernie DiGregorio.

I was an original classmate. Stacom left due to the syndrome that remains: HC didn't know what it wants to be. Then it was the ambivalence over the Yankee Conference--it wasn't Jack Adams. Stacom's coming out game was a Fordham blowout at rosehill where he scored 28 -- those were the Yelverton years.

Hans3 is right. As I recall, the starting lineup in 70-71 was Kissane, Schnurr, Adams, Grayson and Grentz, with Doyle, Stacom, Phelan and Venne off the bench. The other guys on the team were Peter Knapp and Don Sasso (a former starter who blew a knee out and didn't play very much afterward, more due to the injury than ability).

Stacom and Grentz basically beat out Venne that year; his playing time was way down from 69-70. Stacom most certainly would have started had he not left.

Last I heard, Venne was struggling with health problems. I hope he's had better luck the last 5 years or so.

Buddy, who could shoot the eyes out of the basket over a zone, is still struggling with his health problems. My classmate, and Buddy's former teammate, Pete Knapp still regularly communicates with him. Buddy's life is not easy these days and we should all keep him in our prayers.
