Why is the women's team able to recruit better student athletes than the men's team? It appears the men's team is not attracting top students as is Bucknell and Lehigh. Even American had players make the academic honor roll. If we can't attract good students in the Patriot League, how do we expect to do it in the A-10, Big East, or whatever? Posters keep saying we don't have to compromise the academics to play in a better conference but it appears we are already compromising to stay competitive in the PL, now that everyone else has scholarships.

but Lehigh is taking a transfer out of High Point University, which is not a competitive school by any means.

Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

Also, let's not turn a blind eye to the fact that HC recruited a Joe Young, valedictorian of his class and 1470 or so SAT scorer. Who knows, maybe he is pre-med or some other tough major and needs more time than playing bball will allow.

Furthermore, one's life is not ruined if you don't make academic honor roll in the PL. I know of several sub 3.0 guys at the Cross that are doing more than fine right now.

Cheers.

I suggest you check the PL web site and read the press release. It list the major for the honor roll student athletes. You will see, for example, that Bucknell's freshman forward/center McNaughton is an engineering major. What's Thomas' major, pre-med?

your reply did not address my point...I was not commenting on other schools' players and I have no idea what our's major in...the point is that we are not recruiting idiots, and I wasn't talking about Thomas but Young.

I know a fair amount of bright people that graudated from the Cross with sub 3.0 GPA's. My point is that not making honor roll at HC has nothing to do with intelligence or future success.

When it is all said and done, I just don't see the point you are trying to make.

Cheers.

Does anyone know how the grades were earned? In season v out of season (summer school)work.
I believe at least two PL schools don't have summer schools.
Would grades earned at another institution during the summer be included in the the host institution GPA?
Do athletic scholarships cover the cost of outside summer courses?

I'm the strongest supporter of high academic standards. However, I don't think you can necessarily conclude that we are compromising academic standards just because we place noone on the scholars list. Do we have any players in academic trouble? Is anyone flunking out or on academic probation? If not, then perhaps the players are, indeed, qualified to be HC/PL students. Certainly I'd love to see us dominate the athletic/academic honor roll, but, lacking that, I don't know if we have the facts to support despair quite yet...
