Author: show Fitton Field on the Campus Tour
Subject: Interesting that the HC website does not
That's a real slap at the football program. There's no place on Campus like a packed Fitton. Bring back the old days! Or, at least get out an old picture from a BC game. It's a shame for both students and alums, that Fr. Brooks caused irrepairable damage to the two greatest campus activities/memories, Football and Basketball. What could he have been thinking of? Now HC is bottomed out in football and sinking fast in hoops. God save the Cross!

If only we could fill it like we used to...sigh...
Cheers.

Re: Interesting that you couldn't find this -- Why no photo on "Campus Tour"?, 14:30:27 06/25/04 Fri
Should get a nice blow-up of Fitton (not from the blimp). I would not use the same photo as in the Facilities page; just too far away.

Re: "sinking fast in hoops"? -- NTKHC64, 15:09:00 06/24/04 Thu
Again, not even a moniker---another example of why this board should go to registration. Even if you accept that HC isn't head and shoulders above the rest of the PL, your "sinking fast" characterization is overdone. Jave Meade is gone, true, as is Neil Fingleton. Jave was a great contributor. In all fairness, Neil was not. Everyone else returns. Keith Simmons has shown great ability. I don't want to go player by player but there is plenty of talent and at the very worst, the team is not dropping that far below the rest of the pack if it is dropping at all. There were younger players who should improve this year. There is senior leadership in Kinsey, Lufkin and Hurley. I have confidence that things have to go better for John this year. At the least I know he will give it all he has. Richter and Young should also improve and Clifford and Doherty should see action. "sinking fast"? I just don't accept it.

well said -- dadominate, 15:38:28 06/24/04 Thu
totally agree ntk. have to get a laugh out of the jackasses talking about how we are "sinking", "can't even win in the PL", etc.
open your eyes idiots - we won the league tournament 3 out of the past 4 years! and then a middle of the pack finish last year (not like we finished last) after losing three 1,000 point scorers. how is that sinking fast? i'll be fired up by the time the season rolls around, the silence of the jealous naysayers will be amusing to say the least.

It is what is known as an upset - Like Buster Douglas knocking out Mike Tyson; or a bunch of American college kids beating the Russians in Olympic hockey; or a .500 football team destroying the #1 college football team by a 55-12 score; or a horse named "Upset" beating "Man o'War".
It is one of those things that makes sports enjoyable.

Had HC played Williams 9 more times in basketball last season, I'd still bet on the Cross to win at least 7 or 8 of the remaining 9. Willard would find a way. (Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.........or something along those lines).

Pitt, outstanding comment on exactly the right response to all those who don't understand the true nature of the Williams game!

Hey, I didn't like losing that game either but Williams, as National Champs in D-III, simply isn't that far behind HC these days.
That was/is a pretty good club....perfectly capable of hanging with most PL teams.

Re: Sinking? Hardly.. -- KY Crusader '75, 16:32:10 06/24/04 Thu
The "sinking fast" comment is ridiculous. I,among many others I believe, can't wait to see what our 2004-05 team will do and I'm filled with optimism. If Keith Simmons improves as much for his soph year as Kevin Hamilton did we are in for some big games from him. Hamilton will move up a notch or two as a Junior and we've got other guns as well. There's plenty of time left before the Fall and I look forward to the player by player debate, but, again, our cupboard is hardly bare.
NTK-- You said Richter and Young should improve, I assume you meant Hyland and Young, unless you have some good inside news about Greg Richter's return.

Hyland Richter - new recruit ?
That'd be a great name for a hoops player !

2 Years away from NCAAs again -- sader1970, 19:46:59 06/24/04 Thu
Prediction that HC will finish #2 in PL men's BB this coming season. I think the sterling freshman of last season need another year of seasoning and playing as a team under Ralph before HC regains domination of the PL. I expect great things from Torey Thomas and Keith Simmons and think they'll eventually be a strong offensive duo. Two seasons from now, KHam will be a senior and the offense we couldn't generate this past season will be a thing of the past. Nate will need help inside, help that we all hoped he would get from Neil last season but did not for a number of reasons.
Hurley and Kinsey should come off the bench, not start. Neither should be in the game at the end if close and foul shots become the deciding factor.
This season, I'd start Torey, KHam, Keith, Joe Young and Nate. I see Josh coming in to spot Joe or Keith. Hopefully, our incoming big man will develop quickly. And I've got my fingers crossed that with the loss (or gain?) of Neil's schollie that it can be put to good use with some bone-bender frontcourt man.
But, please Lord, show our team how to put a foul shot through the hoop!

I didn't forget K. Hyland -- sader1970, 19:58:09 06/24/04 Thu
In Kevin's first year, I thought that Ralph didn't give him enough playing time. With Nate/Neil injured in the beginning of last season, Kevin got playing time and he looked good at first. As the season progressed, I didn't see the development I would have expected and he got himself in foul trouble a lot. He initially struck me as a smaller Pat Whearty (a "pocket battleship" to Patrick's "carrier"). Maybe Kevin will hit his stride this year but he seems a little too slow, a little too short and not quite bulky enough to make the impact I thought he might. He'd have to make up for it in court savvy as Josh seems to show.
Like others on the team, he seems to be a very nice young man and my hope is that he'll prove me totally wrong and have a breakout year this coming season. After all, I didn't give a lot of respect to KHam his freshman year but he was a shining star last season.
