All five starters from America East Champions earn a 3.41 or better GPA

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Not only did the University of Vermont men's basketball
team have a great season on the court, several members of the team had an
outstanding year in the classroom.

All five of coach Tom Brennan's starters on the 2004 America East Champions
earned a grade point average of 3.41 or better. A total of six Catamounts
were named to the America East Academic Honor Roll (3.00 or higher) with
three student-athletes making the Commissioner's Honor Roll (3.50 or
higher).

All six student-athletes have distinguished themselves as individuals on
the court and in the classroom. In May, senior Scotty Jones (Katy, Texas)
was awarded UVM's Wasson Athletic Prize for Outstanding Academic and
Athletic Achievement. He also graduated that month with dual degrees in
mechanical engineering as well as statistics. Junior David Hehn (Sarnia,
Ontario), a member of the Golden Key Honors Society, has been named to the
America East Academic Honor Roll for the third straight season. Three
juniors, Taylor Coppenath (West Barnet, Vt.), the 2004 Kevin Roberson
America East Player of the Year, Germain Njila (Yaounde, Cameroon), a
member of the 2004 America East All-Championship team, and T.J. Sorrentine
(Pawtucket, R.I.), an America East All-Conference First Team selection, now
have been named to the Academic Honor Roll in two seasons.

Also in May, red-shirt freshman Martin Klimes (Prague, Czech Republic) was
named the outstanding sophomore majoring in Business Administration at UVM.

A total of 122 student-athletes from the University of Vermont,
representing 13 winter and spring sports, were named to the Winter-Spring
America East Academic Honor Roll. Vermont boasts 59 student-athletes on
the Commissioner's Honor Roll for achieving a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

For the 2003-04 academic year, the Catamounts placed 175 student-athletes
on the America East Academic Honor Roll, with 84 student-athletes being
selected to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. A total of 1,098
student-athletes were named to the 2003-04 America East Winter/Spring
Academic Honor Roll for earning GPA's of 3.0 or higher.

Of course they are not slouches - what else is there to do in Burlington from November to April except study! That is one cold place during the long winter.

We used to refer to Anna Maria College as 'Ice Station Zebra'....but that's getting off topic.
