Subject: Flight spoilers SOP

Hi guys.

Here's another one of my pet peaves on our way to operate the RJ : the so-called limitations on flight spoilers.

As per the wing A-ice 78% thing, Air Canada took it upon itself to re-interpret a Bombardier/Mot/Faa/Jaa certification item and call it a limitation.

Here's where I come from on this:

First, the real limitation on altitude with flight spoilers deployed is 300' agl for an MOT and FAA certification, and 800' agl for a JAA (eurotrash) certification. Why did we opt for the euro limitation when we really use MOT/FAA for the rest ?

Second, the real limitation for speed with flight spoilers deployed is manoeuvring speed plus 10 knots, not 30. This one I'd like to know where they got from.......

So, again, here we are confusing certification limitation with what is really an SOP.

Pacman
