The only thing that I can recommend is that you try a stuffy toy or something. Raw hide with smaller dogs can do damage if a piece gets lodged in their throat and there is no one there to attend to them. A 'Kong' is also a good idea as it will allow them to get some exercise chasing it around to get the treat. With the barking it is most likely that it is lonelyness as well as new sounds. Puppys can be the same.

I just got my puppy house trained for when we have to go to work or out where we can't take her. The stuffed toy seemed to work the best you just have to keep an eye on it so that when it is starting to get torn and well used they don't have problems with the stuffing, one with the pellets would be the best. Might make a mess if it is torn when you are not there but can't cause damage if swallowed.
