I'm hoping someone can help. Our 5 yr. old German Shepard Baron, has been in terrible pain for the past two weeks. At first we thought it might be a sprained hip and took him to the vet. Vet took xrays and prescribed "advil". Didn't help. Two days later, vet gave him equivelant to motrin. Didn't help. Vet then referred us to specialty orthopedic surgeon. New vet said it might be spinal infection. Gives us heavy antiboitics and tynelol with codeine and lets Baron come home with us (says to watch for paralysis). Later on Friday, Baron starts showing signs of paralysis so we bring him back to specialty vet and they do a spinal tap testing for spinal mengitias. This was last Friday. Results are neg. Keep Baron in animal hosptial all weekend where they can manage his pain with morphine. Do ultrasound on Monday to see about cancer, comes back inconclusive.

Doctor thinks that it is either a. just an infection b. early stage cancer or c. ruptured disk. Baron is still in severe pain. Anyone had any experience with infections? Do they really go away after 4 weeks or is this symptomatic of early stage cancer?

Definitely not prepared to put him down...he's still so young:-( Any advice or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated!!
