  • He swallowed hard and looked up to meet her eyes - it wasn't because he felt horrible about his past, which although it was true was not the main basis for his hiding it from her and worrying so much about this conversation now - it was that he felt like he would rather die than hurt her, and he knew this was going to hurt her - this part of his life that he'd held back, out of her reach for all of this time.
