Subject: "Thanks." Her tone was a little flat and the word rushed out on a breath - not cold, just so shocked and fighting nausea...

She hadn't changed so much that this was her identity now, but she had changed enough that she had gained a sort of confidence and independance when he had left. It had been terrifying that first little while without him as she struggled to get her life back in order and as she came to the realization that she didn't even really know who she was anymore. She had spent the past few years focussed only on him and channeling every ounce of her strength into him to help him get better in any way that she possibly could. And then he had been gone and she had been lost, and scared, and completely heartbroken. This place was a part of her now, but it wasn't who she was - she worked here a few nights a week to make spending money, and because it was fun to work alongside her daddy behind the bar, which had quickly become her forte. She wasn't feeling much of this newfound confidence now though, and shifted to lean back against the door - as much for the support as because it was as far as she could get from him right then, and she needed the space to help her feel safe. "Yeah, well, a lot can change in what - how long's it been? Must be almost a year now." Her nonchalance was faked completely - she knew to the day how long it had been since he had left. Thirteen months and four days.

  • "Twenty eight months." He stated easily, gazing out the window for a moment and inwardly cursing his father before he let out a soft breath. "You been takin' care of my old man?" He questioned, he could at least use the charm he had been so blessed with - offering her a smile before he just cleared his throat once more, shifting awkwardly. "It's good to see you..." His voice lowered at that comment, taking the tone that was always used just for her - sincere and almost boyish. (NT) -- Austin, 10:08:31 11/02/04 Tue
