"I heard you were taking classes again...'round here?" Small talk was an awful thing but at least this way he was finding out some things about her - thats all he wanted, to find out how she was and what she was doing with herself these days.

She never wanted him to think that she didn't want to be around him - it was just so hard and it hurt so much. "Yeah, just part time at the university..."
