Fear

KEY VERSE: Psalm 34:4 "I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears".

Fear in one sense can mean respect and honour such as keeping the commandments of God, Ecclesiastes 12:13-14. When we truly fear God by keeping his commandments we will hate sin, Proverbs 8:13. This fear is put into our hearts from God, Jeremiah 32:38-40. But we must allow God to work in us by our Faith in his purpose for us to fear him, 2 Corinthians 6:17-18, Philippians 2:12-14, 2 Corinthians
7:1. We should fear (respect and honour men) for the glory of God, 1 Peter 2:17-18; Romans 13:7.

God can use fear in the sense of terror to convert lost souls whether by supernatural power, Acts 16:28-30 or by the Terror of warning of God's wrath, St. Matthew 10:28-33, 2 Corinthians 5:11. Children of God may sense the terror of the Lord, Acts 5:1-11, see
key verse 11. This type of fear brings to mind the saying "put the fear of God into" but this should help us to fear and respect the Lord.

There is a fear where one can be concerned that people can be deceived and destroyed by the deception of sin 2 Corinthians 11:3.
There is fear in the sense of distress, apprehension, or alarm. In Proverbs 29:25 it declares how the fear of men is a snare (trapped or entangled in sin), see 1 Samuel 15:24; St John 12:42-43. People can fear men and won't give up this life of sin because of what people may say about them or do to them. Not having Faith in God's
ability to do his work in you because of fear can be a disaster, St Matthew 25:25 & 30, Revelation 21:8.

However 2 Corinthians 7:5-6 shows when saints are shaken all troubled by fear we has Saints can be used by God to strengthen one another. In Psalm 34:4 we see when one his challenged or discouraged by fear one can trust and pray to the Lord in faith for victory. If we are feeling weak with fear, God reminds us to take a positive approach of faith towards God, Isaiah 35:3-4, Joel 3:10.

When one embarks on Ministry and service for God, Satan will challenge you with fear, Nehemiah 6:9 and verses 13 & 14 of the same chapter. But we must respond to God's call in faith, Deuteronomy 31:8.

Fear can make one feel they are going to come under God's Judgement, Jealousy can bring fear that someone may succeed more than us. Saints should seek to be empowered with God's Love by being in a
relationship with Jesus, 1 John 4:17-18. To have it put in mind the consequences of hell to keep one on the straight and narrow is a good thing when needful, St Luke 12:5. But this shouldn't be a constant torment.
We must remember those who are weak and feeble minded (fainthearted with fear) to support and encourage them, 1 Thessalonians 5:14, Acts 20:35 and Romans 15:1.
