I am one of the "workers" responding to the messages in this chat room. I work at Youth & Family Services at Logan.
thanks for your message- sorry about the wait, I was sick yesterday so couldn't reply.
When people talk about wanting to stop rape from happening, they often mean a whole range of different ways of trying to do this. some people may learn self-defence so they will feel able to physically stop someone hurting them. other people may want to increase security in public places like university and school campuses. other people might focus on working with men to promote non-violence and the idea that men are responsible for their own behaviour.
I think it's important to know that sexual assualt is usually done by someone who knows the person they assualt- it's an abuse of trust and power. what do you think are ways of trying to stop rape that might work?

It would be great to hear what other people think would be good ways of trying to stop rape, and men's violence generally (men commit about 95-98% of sexual assualts against women and I think about the same % of sexual assualts against other men and boys).
if you live in brisbane, you might like to contact the Brisbane Rape and Incest Survivors Support Centre on 3391 0004. if you live outside of brisbane you can call kids help line on 1800 55 1800 and they can talk with you and also let you know the nearest support place to you. Kids Help Line also have a web site www.kidshelpline.com.au.
