Without a doubt, there are a wide variety of views held by a wide range of people as to who Jesus was and what He stood for. But one of the most unusual claims in recent times is that He was a Witch! This claim (blasphemy and mockery really) has been made by various individuals from time to time and is the theme of a website: http://www.jcwitch.com/. At this particular site there is even the option of buying a t-shirt, mug, or handbag with the words: "If Jesus were here today, he would be a Witch!". One can not help but wonder whether this particular site is out to shock, while making some easy money in the meantime!
Others have claimed similar such things. For example:
"I believe he [Jesus] was a witch. He worked miracles or what we would call magic, cured people and did most things expected from a witch. He had his coven of thirteen." (Arnold and Patricia Crowther, The Secrets of Ancient Witchcraft with the Witches Tarot, p. 164).
However, it has to be said that the whole concept of Jesus being a Witch, despite the fact that it is historically and culturally inaccurate, is totally obscene. Thankfully, most honest minded Witches would not make such an assertion. Jesus was from a thoroughly Jewish background, grounded in the Old Testament, which utterly condemns most of the practices of modern day Witches (e.g. Deut. 18:10-12; Lev. 19:26; 2 Kings:17:10-17; 2 Chron. 33:6).
Contrary, to the majority of Witches today, Jesus also believed in a literal personal Devil. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus spoke of Him and to Him using personal pronouns (for example, during His temptation recorded at Matt. 4:1-11).
In addition, there is no evidence that Jesus participated in any initiation rites, cast spells, believed in relativism (he spoke of truth and of being "the truth" John 14:6), believed in, or called upon the goddess (He called God "Father"), believed in reincarnation, or karma (he taught resurrection), believed that nature was divine (He taught that the world was created), or believed in the concept of polytheism (He was a strict Jewish monotheist).
There is therefore no evidence whatsoever for the outlandish claim that Jesus was a Witch. On the contrary, the evidence from His life, His religion, and the culture He was brought up in, totally repudiates the very idea.
