Subject: Uh oh... *more Jenna-medical-trauma*

Yeah. Went to see an orthopedic specialist in Ottawa (at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario) today at 10:30. He took one look at the way I was walking and sent me for an emergency MRI (that's Magnetic Resonance Imaging... like a 3D X-Ray), and I got that done at 11:30 (it usually takes a year and a half to get one booked, and I got one done an hour after it was booked... that was kinda scary.). Man, that was quite the experience. They stick you in this little tiny tube in this GIANT magnet and you have to lie perfectly still for, like, half an hour, and there's all this noise... and they tell you to take off all the metal you're wearing to prevent "accidents". I was lying there in this tube thinking, "OH GOD... imagine if I missed taking out an earring or something... *RIP*... eeekkk..." Anyways, the tech guy who did it told me that they'd send the results to Dr. Letts, the specialist, in a week or so, and sent me on my merry way - and then as we're leaving the radiology unit, we hear "JENNA LEA HILL TO C.4" over the P.A. So we're like, what the hell's going ON here? So off we go back up to see Dr. Letts (this is, like, 1:00), and he comes into the room and first thing he says is, "Well... This isn't good." And I'm thinking, "OH FUCK OH FUCK OH FUCK..." He told us that I have a central prodruding disc, which basically means that one of the discs in between the vertebrae in my spine has pretty much *exploded* into my spinal column. And you can fucking SEE it in the MRI. There's supposed to be this space between the spinal column and the disc about the diameter of a toonie (that's about the size of a silver dollar, for the non-Canadians), and mine is about the diameter of a pencil. It's filled with exploded-disc-stuff. So yeah. Then he goes, "DO NOT go to physiotherapy anymore, DO NOT go to a chiropractor, DO NOT lift ANYTHING, don't walk unless you ABSOLUTLY have to, don't stand unless you ABSOLUTLY have to. You're going to need surgery. And soon, because in another three months you'll be in a wheelchair. On a scale of 1 to 10, this is about a 9 and a half." My mum starts to bawl, my dad's just staring at the guy, and I look at him and go, "Are you fucking serious, man? You're fuckin' joking. No motherfuckin' way." And then I started to laugh. I have NO idea WHY I laughed, I just did. So yeah. I'll be getting a call from a spinal specialist by Tuesday, and I'll have my surgury booked within 6 weeks. I'm SO fucking excited. (That was sarcasm, in case you missed that) But, on the bright(er) side, it's almost BETTER that it's a MAJOR thing, as opposed to a MINOR thing, because they can't do squat for minor stuff, and I'll be back to normal within three weeks of the surgury. Which means my Italy trip is still on and all that jazz. Cuz there's no way in hell I'd be going like THIS. *sigh*
