SILVERCHAIR frontman Daniel Johns says therapy helped him during the making of the band's new album.
Johns, 22, documented his battles with fame, low self-esteem and an eating disorder on silverchair's acclaimed 1999 album Neon Ballroom. But subsequent therapy sessions led to a positive outlook, reflected in the new album, Diorama.

"I never like the idea of talking about therapy in interviews because it sounds like typical rock and roll cliched bulls--t," Johns said, "but it definitely helps, it's beneficial.

"I consider myself a relatively positive person these days."

Johns, now suffering from reactive arthritis, said his girlfriend, singer Natalie Imbruglia, helped him through dark times, but it had also rubbed off on her music.

"I think darkness is contagious," he said.
