Date Posted: 23:40:08 03/19/02 Tue After 1st listen, I was very disapointed with "In Our Gun"... Mind you, thats probably coz I have been looking forward to it since Machismo (and lets face it kids... that was a wee while ago!)... and only "Shot Shot", "Rex Kramer" and the title track seemed to be of any value! I HATED the new version of "Detroit Swing"! However, decided to give it a bit of a chance, and after 3 listens, I started to pick up on it a bit. 5 listens and yeah man! Its wicked! At work today I was humming bits of the songs I didn't even know were there in my head! Listened to the album loads this evening. Its great stuff! REally annoyed that all the lukewarm (and poor reviews) were probably based on 1 or 2 listens. "In Our Gun" is an album that quietly sneaks up on you. Most of the best albums are like that. I was dubious on Kid A when i first heard that, and now its one of my favourite albums. Albums like this continue to grow on you every time you listen, as there is always more to discover! This is unlike albums by the likes of Stereophonics et al, who are distinctive upon first listen, but reveal very little depth over a course of a few listens, and their albums are thus relegated to the CD rack, never to come out for further listening after 1 month of ownership. SOrry, that was a bit of a rant there! Anyway, well done lads, for proving me wrong, and the album proving to be great after all! I gave the B-Sides of Shot Shot a further listen too. Never really paid much attention to them before due to having little time on my hands lately, but my god! Pop Juice is so moving! Can't get the bloody song out of my head now! As an owner of everything Gomez have recorded (official stuff anyway), and having seen them live a few times, I would consider myself a fan! Thank god they haven't let us down... and a brand new album in November? Can this be true? Monseiur, with these Ferrero Rocher, you really are spoiling us! Whats everyones fave B-Side? I am a "Flight" man myself! Peace! [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
