Ok, my thoughts on the Strokes...

I like music where something new, creative, and very diverse is being done. Many will disagree(especially Ryan!) but bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy, and Meat Beat Manifesto are PRIME examples of what musicians should be doing. Why? Becuause the diversity is amazing. So you might be saying, "Well, I think the Strokes have diversity!" But do they have originality?
Skinny Puppy is the inventor of industrial music, it's that simple. They have been around since 1982 foramlly, but music has been done since 1979. They used synths and drum machines as their main focus, and samples from everywhere with tourtured vocals. NO ONE did that at that time period, and it took years for rip-offs to come around.
Meat Beat Manifesto formed in 1987, and it was mainly one man. This man was influenced by many bands, and genres of music. He was an open minded person who loved the electronic side of music. He used samples, and played both drum and bass. He sang with meaning, on topics such as the government and job-layoffs that took place in England years ago. He single-handly invented the drum and bass genre, as well as using elements such as jazz in his music.
So, what I'm trying to say is, these people wanted something new, they were open minded and experimental. To me, the Strokes are just rehashing 60's and 70's rock music, and it's just boring. Do somethinig new, or at least sound original...
Some(hell, probably most of you) probably disagree with me, but I just had to say what I had to say.
