Date Posted: 11:48:34 03/04/02 Mon Being a huge Gomez fan I thought that I'd rush out this morning and buy the Shot Shot singles and I have to say that they're excellent. However, I think that the Folk Shot version of Shot Shot is defintely worthy of a special mention. On their past singles, the edit version on the second CD has usually been incredibly similar to the album version (with the exception of the X-Ray Version of We Haven't Turned Around) with only a slight change, but they've really excelled themselves this time. Not only is it an excellent version of an already good song, but I think that it's probably as good as the original. And if these singles are anything to go by, then the album must be much better than Q Magazine seem to think it is. And on that note, NME said about Shot Shot "if it ain't broke, who can blame them for not fixing it", yet Q Magazine complain that Gomez have made no real progress. I didn't see them write that about Weezer, who are also an excellent band yet have been ploughing the same furrow for the last five or six years. And the new artwork by Jonathan Purday, although not quite as excellent as Reggie Pedro's, still suits Gomez's style (well, I think it does) and is also pretty cool.
