squealing trumpets are good. i'm quite sure they weren't played badly, in fact the musicians who played them are probably incredible session musicians, they're not out of tune, just out of key and i think they sound brilliant next to the cool bass, drums and electronica - they really complement it well.
for example, in the ratm song bullet in the head, there are two notes in the bassline that played on their own sound awful but put next to each other in that bassline sound great together (the last two notes in the intro line). you don't always have to follow the rules in music. how to write music and what makes it sound good aren't set in stone, that's why it's constantly evolving, which is good.
