Subject: Getting shots during house calls Author: Steven [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: Monday, August 30, 2010, 11:43: am Our family doctor would occasionally make house calls when one of the kids got sick back in the '70s. It seemed that this always entailed someone getting stuck with a needle, so the announcement that the doc would be coming was not always a popular one. I twice remember getting penicillin shots on my bed due to a sore throat when I was pretty young. Worse than that was a case when my sister was sick, but my brother and I (who were NOT sick) had to get gamma globulin shots as teens. Something about having that done in our own room made us more upset about it. It made for sore tempers as well as sore rear ends. Did anyone else have experiences like this? I remember one time in which all of us were present while our younger sister was treated. My mother was usually present when I was the patient, and I recall my older brother being an observer once. However, this time mentioned above we were older, and thus did not have parents or younger siblings present. We (my brother and I) received our shots together in our shared bedroom. Not long after he arrived, introduced himself, it was a new doctor to the surgery, btw, my dad showed him to my brothers bedroom where I was with him, changing his diaper. The doctor not to rediaper him yet, he wanted to check him over, he took his temperature 1st, rectally, while this was regitering he asked about history and if he was allergic to anything, dad told him no, but he wasn't able to take oral meds, because of a reflux problem, no probs doctor said, as he read his temperature, I going to give him antibiotic in his bottom, btw me and my other brother were watching all the proceedings, and we new how he would be feeling soon because go threw the same procedure on a regular basis for the same reasons, the doctor gave him the shot and said that dad would need to bring him in to the surgery in a couple of days for another shot, after this injection the doctor said ok to put his diaper on, and left, see you in a couple of days.
