Tim,
Today the insurance reimbursement (esp. Medicaid) is so poor doctors are reluctant to give shots. Besides, if there is some complication from the injection, they'll get sued. So it is easier to wrire a script.

Thanks for responding. My doctor takes Medicare and Medicaid. In fact, every specialist I've seen takes both. They tell me the reimbursements are fine. So maybe in NY things are okay. I can't speak for the rest of the Country.

From my experience, almost everyone I know would rather walk out with a script. I don't know anyone that would want a shot; even if it cures you faster. I think the doctors here know this.

I went to my doctor with all of my veins bright red from Staph and he wrote me a script. 2 days later it began to go away. The Staph got in from a cut I had on my arm. He never suggested a shot nor would I have taken one. If it didn't get better I suppose I would have checked into a hospital and gone on intravenous antibiotic.

A girl I know had lyme disease from a tic and they had her on intravenous in the hospital for a few days. But she never would have taken a shot.

Maybe the thinking is different in other parts of the Country.

Another girl I know in China, who is a student, says that whenever any student gets ill, they immediately start giving them penicillin shots IN SCHOOL. One a day. She says in their Country they can't afford to miss even a day of school. She got 1 shot a day for 3 days in school.
