I remember getting shots in the behind many times and often crying when I felt the needle. However once I was naked or at least had my pants and underwear down the Dr usually gave the cheek a sharp crack. I am pretty sure that the tears came from the smack on the behind as much as the pricking of the needle.
Sometimes the shots were given by an RN who worked with him. I can also recall my mom having to grasp my sister's wrists and pull them over the exam table so she was bent over it with her butt, not just accessible to the nurse, but in my full view.
Frequently one of us received a Doctor's or Nurse's play kit for a birthday or X-mas and that led to someone playing Doctor and me being the patient. But the best game playing was after a DR's visit when we would re-enact the exam in as many details as possible, especially if mom was busy with something elsewhere in the house or even better having coffee with the neighbors. That usually meant that I would be the one who lay in bed pretending to be sick and my sister would "arrive" with the Dr's kit and examine me from head to foot, special emphasis on the in between area which once I began to mature was very interesting to her.
Since we didn't really know what the Dr was looking for it was all a matter of trying to follow the steps that we had seen the nurse or doctor do.
On one occasion I had to give a urine sample at the Dr's visit so after that I would be escorted, usually naked to the nearest bathroom and had to provide a sample under very close supervision.
Frequently one or the other of the cousins who lived closest and were just about the same age. I was the oldest male of the group and so I matured first.
