Belinda, I don't think it was all that unusual for kids to be "introduced" to the enema bag or white can fairly early in life. For me I can remember back to my first cleaning out with a bag at 4. My mother had an illustrated child care book and one picture showed a baby barely age 1 lying on his/her side with a large bag hanging overhead.

Same experience, possibly even the same child care manual. I remember looking through this thick book with line drawings of various procedures, with two pages dedicated to enemas.

My earliest enema memories are of me over my mother's lap and the enema bag hanging above me. She also had a bulb enema but I have no memory of it being used on me. She was a good judge of how much to give.
