I was 17 when the doctor last made a house call, he did take my rectal temperature and it was no problem for me at all. I am nearly 60 now and still have my rectal temp taken.

Last doctor visit was when I was 12. I was home with a cold. The doc took my oral temperature. After he was finished, I heard him tell my mom that he could use an enema if I hadn't had a bowel movement.

I didn't have one. Mom called me into her bedroom. My granny also in there. She told me she needed to take my temperature. Naturally I assumed that it would in my mouth but no, She said that she's taking it "the other way"
I hadn't seen the towel on her bed. I had to take my PJ bottom off and lay on my stomach. While I laid there with the RT in me (felt okay) mom fixed the enema bag.
Out came the RT. I saw granny holding the bag. Mom put in the nozzle. Felt funny when mom separated my buttocks and stuck the nozzle in.

got my RT taken until I was 15 if I had a cold or sore throat. Enemas until 17.

Well, we had a house visit about a month ago. It wasn't for me - my daughter Melanie (age 9) fainted on her way out of the bathroom. It was her grandma who insisted on calling the health clinic, and to my surprise the family doctor came around.
He did take her oral temperature.
I wanted to believe it was just dehydration but before long he turned the talk to bowel movements (he did, not me!) suggested that she might have overstrained herself trying to do a smelly (he didn't use those words of course!) And so...he gave Mel a rectal exam, which she was not at all happy about, esp. when I had to help get her into poeition!

The doc then advised me to give her a suppository and said "I'll leave it to you, I know you know what you're doing here..." When he'd gone I ended up giving her an enema. Misery, of course - she pleaded with me not to do it and cried all the way through it. But of course it made her do masses of smelly evil, so it was worthwhile

In old times a rectal exam was mandatory if the family doctor suspected constipation of a child! At last a doctor who did his duty! Sue, I don't know the position you have put Mel, perhaps turned on her belly. My mother and aunt were raising apart my and my sisters's legs for a good palpation of the tummy! And believe me it was high time your dughter had to be filled with a good enema! You haven't be shy of washing her out when needed!

She was turned on her side, the way they do it in hospitals.

I'm reviving this partly to apologise for adjusting my daughter's age (as I did in those days, in a vain attempt to see off the professional offence-takers) - and partly to mention that this event was something of a turning-point: it was then that the doctor she used to see pretty much gave up trying to find a physical cause for her recurrent constipation, at which point I (along with her grandparents) started to become more controlling (not just of her bowel-function).

I don't know whether this really belongs in this thread, but one of the landmark traumatic experiences of my childhood was a visiting district-nurse giving me an enema when I was 6 (the details have been shared several times on the enema forums). Four years later we had another house-call from a nurse, my sister being the victim this time. I didn't know exactly what happened at the time, but I now know it wasn't another enema, it was a manual evacuation. Which is something our mother attempted when she was at her most sadistic - I suspect she persuaded the clinic to send the nurse mainly because she wanted to learn the technique from a professional.

Now that voy 58940 has been shut down, the enema/suppository people will have to hang out on this forum, forcing a change of emphasis - unless the editor decides to step in and plug the gap?
