I was 15 or 16 sick for 3 days and yes the antipation of the shot was miserable but with our family doctor the only thing worse than the shot in the butt was the recommendation that mom should give me an enema.,and the trifecta was the rectal thermometer. So first it was the call to Dr. Sharer then the anticipation of the house call just before dinner. He took my temperature in my butt with moms thermometer, then the fever announcement 103. Then the shot in the butt...ouch! I would be praying please no enema talk please no enema talk. Then he would give me a tap on the butt and say ever so casually Peggy I think you should give Mark an enema before bed. The dread would shoot
through my body as she hung on every word he said. Oh yes Dr I was planning on giving Marjy an enema but thank you for confirming it. You hear that Marky? No arguing. After dinner I will be back with to give you an enema. Thank you Dr. Marky say thank you to Dr Sharer. I'm thinking thank him for what! But I would quietly thank him dreading the impending enemas. Mom brought me some crushed ice and ginger ale that I sipped on while everyone else ate dinner. Then I heard mom.get up.from.the table announcing that it was time for her to give Mark an
enema. I tried to pretend I was fast asleep as she came into my room and told me to come with her to the bathroom. I took my place in the tub on my belly ss mom filled the beg with warm soapy water and hung it from.the towel rack. She got on her knees and pushrdbthe nozzle in and the enema started to flow. After an hour and 3 enemas later I gratefully crawled in to bed. Thank God my fever broke that night.

My mom gave my twin brother Ted an enema every week until we left for college. He was just a constipated kid. I remember secretly wishing that I was the one behind the bathroom door getting my butt purged. Every month or so I would act constipated and finally mom would look at me and tell me that I needed an enema. I would quietly protest but couldn't wait to feel the nozzle going in and the click of the hose clamp as the warm soapy water invaded my butt. I would squirm and fuss as mom held the hose and pushed the nozzle in me. I couldn't wait until enema #2 started. Off the subject here but had to share.
