Subject: embarrassment vs pain

Having grown up in the era of penicillin shots, every doctor's visit ended with an injection-sore bottom but there was a difference between getting them in his surgery and on house calls.

At the surgery I had to undergo the humiliation of pulling everything down to my ankles and bending over the receptionist's lap. I feared the embarrassment of a girl watching me get it in the bare bottom as much if not more than the shot itself as I was subjected to her condensing remarks during my long wait in position while the injection was prepared. I couldn't even pretend she wasn't looking because she either distracted me by pinching one cheek before the needle went into the other and/or instructed me in the diversion of taking a deep breath, closing my eyes and holding my nose just before I felt it.

On house calls, by contrast, I just had to roll over in bed. There was nothing to distract me from the shot - neither a receptionist watching nor even the nose-pinching diversion. All I could do was grip the pillow, apprehensively thinking of what was about to happen and those shots always hurt more and seemed to take longer than the ones I got across receptionists' laps.

Perhaps the surgery embarrassment was actually therapeutic to take my mind off the injection itself and render it a bit less painful.

"Nick "

I don't know at what time it was but when I was a kid until 12 age and a pre-teenager until 14 age, when the school nurse had to give me an injection, the procedure was always the same : pull down you brief (normally we were already undressed at least in brief), turn around, bend over and put your arms on the table, feet sligtly apart, then I felt the arm of a woman put on one of my cheek and sqeezing it to identify the spot of the shot and just after a small slap on the naked butts to distract me (she obviously preferred to give me a slap than to pinch my butts) before the injection.

During military service in France in the first 70's, first week after induction, we had also a few injections all made in the butts.
The military doctor instructed us to line up naked and to come in front of him one by one, then to bend over face to the wall and when he barked "ready" , he gave to us a big slap on our butts which were pointing out in front of him to distract us and then came two or three harmful injection.
