I'm surprised the spanking "didn't help" - I've found that a wallop across the bum, on a clamped but still resistant patient, startles them and relaxes the rectal muscles just long enough to get the nozzle through that stubborn clenching stink-door!

a slap on the butt was often used at my time of childhhod and teenage hood when a nurse wanted to give a shot in the butt of a boy ( I cannot say if they did it also to girls )
it was so common and admitted to be efficient to relax muscles that almotst every female nuses used it even like a trick because they slapped for instance the left cheek of the buttocks while they wanted to shot the right cheek, just to distract the boy from thinking to it and it worked.

It was very frequent, even male doctors did it during military serrvice for the first shots for vaccination which were required for each draftee ahis arrival at barracks after induction.

It seems to me by experience that it was true that it helped for a shot.
