Pardon me Jenny, but I found your previous post rather disturbing.
Both my daughters needed enemas from time to time but I never spanked them even when they "clenched up"(which wasnt often).
I think there are times when we need to try and see things through the eyes of a child.
An enema is not just an invasion of the body, but also of the mind and soul. Consider the nerve endings in the anal area which relate directly to the brain. Using force can result in psycho trauma.
Clenching of the buttocks may not always be an act of rebellion, but rather a genuine fear of penetration (or maybe the child just isn't ready for the nozzle at that moment)
I would use gentle persuasion in the case of my daughters.
"No Dear, relax your botty, Mummy's not going to hurt you...
please try and take your enema, because you really need it."
I would talk about my own childhood enemas how they made me feel so much better afterwards and so on.
Once I had convinced them it was a "win -win" situation they would "un-clench"and I could get the soapsuds in without tears (and with very good results).
I must commend you however for the intelligent and sensitive way you handled the situation with your oldest stepbrother.
I think I would have done the same.
