Mom, I was raised on what was called an enema pillow. My three sisters and one brother got an enema once a week. I usually got my enema on Wednesday night before bed. But with five kids in the house most nights somebody was getting an enema. We were started on enemas for the first one ever when we started school. Before that we were given suppositories or orange juice with castor oil if we were constipated.

The enema pillow was referred to as JBL. It was a much larger hot water bottle with the tip attached to the side. You placed the full water bottle flat on a chair and lower the kid down on to the nozzle and sitting on the water bottle forced the enema up into them. I was the middle child and when it was my year to start enemas I was prepared to fight. But mom had a high chair where your feet would just dangle. They made me grab both elbows with my hands and they wrapped my arms together with ace bandage. Made me step up on a step stool to the high chair and turn around and I got face slapped to get my attention and cooperation to lower down on to the bag. Your hands are bound and your feet are dangling so you have no way to raise up off your enema bag.

Me and my siblings all got our enemas from the JBL through out all our school years. Once a week. Our neighbor lady had three boys and she did all enemas over the left leg until they were older. They were much younger then me and I got to help give them enemas because they would fight too when they started enemas. She used a douche bulb syringe. It had a nozzle I thought looked so huge. The nozzle I don't think was intended for rectal use. It was large and curved and she inserted it pretty far inside the little guys. It was probably a 14 or 16 oz. douche bulb and they would get two of them and it really cleaned them out. Of course being used to enemas by then I sneaked it a few times when I was over there and gave myself an enema with it. I loved the huge nozzle. Wished mom would give me enemas with one like that. I liked the privacy of being left alone while sitting on your enema pillow but craved being bent over and getting an enema from the huge douche bulb.

Maude, when you gave enemas in your home, or other homes, did you always use the sit on bag?

Ever give small bulb enemas on table?

I’ve given mostly on table (changing or kitchen table) or across my lap way.

Used the large douche bulb syringe a few times. Gave friend an enema with it a few times. She was across my lap or on the bed.

I moved it way up her. Until the “shield “ was up against her. Gave her two or more bulb full to her.

Think it held 10 oz.

When her hubby was off to work, both our kids off to school she would come over for coffee. Always ended in her getting an enema with the douche bulb.

Mate, I thought the JBL bag was for grownups only.

Did she put Vaseline up and down the nozzle…then gently placed the one getting it on slowly?

I’ve never seen one.
