I always shivered when I saw the black bag he carried with all the instruments he needed. First thing he did, right after feeling my glands around my neck, was to take my temperature. I always hoped to have it taken in my mouth, but expected the worst, since at the office it was always taken rectally. Sure enough, after shaking down the thermometer he opened the jar of vaseline, and I knew what was coming next.
