 Although a benefit of taking a rectal temperature with a glass rectal thermometer is obtaining reliable and consistent readings, the main purpose is to insure a successful conclusion which is a problem when taking the temperature of a youngster that has delays a combination of intellectual and emotional maturity which have always been common in five year old boys and these days to some boys beyond the age of five years old.
