It will not directly record HDTV from any DishNet receiver currently available. It can possibly record HD when used with the Dish 5000 receiver and HDTV adaptor when used with an STB with firewire. www.avsforum.com has an HDTV recorder section that will describe what is necessary. Not an inexpensive solution. Dish has announced a receiver that will have firewire out and allow direct recording but it is unknown when if ever it will be available.
