Hi!

Actually you just need to drill two holes (the ones on your left) to "simulate" a DVHS tape. The hole on your right is not necessary.
I've used lots of brands, and had success even with very low price tapes.
I've never used these recorded tapes in other DVHS machines, so I don't know anything about their compatibility.
